Say hello to my new favorite snack.
I’ve always been a fan of popcorn (especially at the movies) and have fond memories of my parents making popcorn on the stove when we were kids (in a large pan, with butter and a little salt). In the past, I’ve always stuck with microwave popcorn. That all changed late last year when I bought a Whirley-Pop Stovetop Popcorn Popper. This kettle corn was the first popcorn I made in my new Whirley-Pop and its combination of salty and sweet has made me truly obsessed! It couldn’t be simpler to make either with just 4 ingredients.
Also, I wanted popcorn that pops up big and round (like in the kettle corn you get at the fair), so I tried Hoosier Hill Farm Gourmet Mushroom Popcorn and Pop Secret Jumbo Popping Corn, and was happy with the results from both!
1/4 cup coconut oil
1/2 cup popcorn kernels
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 tsp sea salt
1. In a Whirley Pop (or in a large pot with a lid), melt the coconut oil over medium-high heat. Add the popcorn kernels. When you hear the coconut oil begin sizzling, sprinkle the sugar over the popcorn kernels. Cover and stir (or shake the pan) until the popping slows down. Remove from the heat and pour the kettle corn into a large bowl. Sprinkle with sea salt and toss.
